Retro Sunday Squared With The Scholarly Nail - Maybelline Baha Blue

Hello there, lovies!

Jacqui and I are back! I really miss doing these posts with her so I really hope we can keep it up! Life really gets in the way of blogging sometimes! We both LOVE vintage gold cap Maybelline polishes, so we really wanted to share special gems from our Helmer drawers. I'm already drooling over the Electric Apple she posted, it's been on my wish list FOREVER and she's so lucky to have it in her stash! 

Today I have Baha Blue to share. IT'S FREAKING AWESOME! I bought this on a blog sale over the summer, why the HECK did it take me so long to finally swatch this?! Rich, velvety CRAZY BRIGHT turquoise metallic polish that just pops! Looking back it really makes me miss having this polish on my tips. That shimmer that pops through is so vibrant! The brush was wonky as can be on this brush, I had to re-swatch like two nails. This is two coats.

Rimmel 60 Seconds - Green With Envy

Good morning!

Today I have one of my more recently acquired Rimmel 60 Second polishes, Green With Envy. The ever so lovely Esther sent me this all the way from the UK from her blog sale. 

First off, I really enjoy the brushes on these polishes - nice, wide, flat, easy to control. I know they're not for everyone, but they work for me! Green With Envy is more of what I would consider a blue/turquoise and less of your typical green, but who cares with a color and shimmer this pretty?! Formula was great, this is two coats.

Layering Fun - Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Sonar & Avon Nailwear Pro Olive Green

Allo!

As I had promised, here's yet another Sally Hansen Hard As Nails holo glitter to share - Sonar! OMG I LOVE this one! Sonar is a deepened turquoise based polished with various-sized holo glitter swimming within. What I really love about this collection of glitters is their ability to transform the colors they're layered over. They're sheer yet build-able beyond expectation! This is two layering over Avon Olive Green, up next. 

Under the glittering wonder I have an Avon Nailwear Pro polish, Olive Green. This polish a well known dupe for Rescue Beauty Lounge Orbis Non Sufficit. Perfect creme formula - this is ONE stinkin' coat. Great army olive green indeed - my new go-to!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fall 2011 polishes

Oh, Friday! Thank goodness you're here!

I have the day off today - it's going to be full of swatching and happy hour and a cookout. Today I have three polishes from Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Fall 2011 collection. I came across these at the Dollar Tree, and since I missed out on Bronze Ablaze I was definitely ecstatic! BTW - have you guys seen the recent Insta-Dri LE's?! In A Flurry??? Duochrome shimmer?! No worries, swatches to come. Onto the polish!

First up I have Emerald Express, a deep turquoise shimmer polish with a slight hint of duochrome around the edges. I LOVE this color! It freakin' GLOWS man! Seeing these swatches makes me want to wear this as a full mani NOW. This is two coats of green magic. MAGIC.

Next up I have Ruby Rush, a black-based polish with heavy magenta/red shimmer. What a GREAT Fall color! Fall is my favorite time of the year for polish. Well, that and Christmas - all the greens come out then! ;) This polish strikes me as being very sexy yet sophisticated. Two coats.

Last but not least, I have Bronze Ablaze. After seeing swatches on Scrangie's blog I knew I had to have it. Alas, I was too late and I couldn't find it anywhere. Fate smiled upon that fateful day and I got the last one at Dollar Tree! The formula on this one wasn't nearly as smooth and creamy as the last two - it was runny and watery. Not unworkable, just threw me off from the bunch. Bronze Ablaze is an olive green and gold shimmer polish with serious brown undertones. WOW-ZA. Two coats. True love.

Maybelline Express Finish - New Year's Blues

Hey dolls!

Vintage Maybellines are among my favorite polishes, make them glitter and I go ga-ga! Maybelline has some FANTASTIC glitters out there, I've posted a few in the past. Today I have an eBay score, New Year's Blues. Bidding persistence paid off! New Year's Blues is a great cobalt blue shimmer polish with turquoise glitter. What a concept! I LOVE it! This is three thin coats. *Note to self, swatch Twinkle Twinkle soon!* :)

Old and New - Avon Color Last Mosaic Plum & Savvy Femme Couture Berry Slush

Greetings, fellow polish addicts!

Today I'm starting this post off right with my old polish. I don't own many Avon polishes, not many of them suite my fancy so I think including this one I have three? Four? Either way, after falling in love with this gem, it's time I gave Avon a closer look. I bring to you Mosaic Plum! Mosaic Plum is well, a plum polish (duh!) with a copper shimmer that really sets this polish on FIRE! The color combo and the effects it has are phenomenal! I bought it from eBay. I was the only one bidding and I think with shipping I paid a whopping three bucks. Two coats. Still drooling. :P  

For the new section for today I have my lone Savvy Femme Couture polish to share. I bought Berry Slush from Sally's for 99 cents recently and it really is a fun color. Turquoise chromes win in my book and the formula was pretty great. Yet another brands I need to give a closer look! Two coats.

Old and New - Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Twinkling Turquoise & Boots 17 Spring Petal

Time for another addition of Old and New on this lovely Wednesday! I've been trying (....key word TRYING.....) to only buy polishes that I really love or that are on my never ending/always growing wishlist. I'm in the process of weeding through my stash to either have a blog sale or show some love to my fellow bloggers and polish friends. The wheels are still turning on that one though - I give you girls so much credit - blogs sales seem like such hard @$$ work! Speaking of - my first polish for today was a recent blog purchase of mine. Twinkling Turquoise is one of the more sought after Wet Shine Diamonds underneath Banana Puddin. It's been on my wishlist for a while but I couldn't never stomach eBay prices. One day I found it on a blog sale for two bucks! It was meant to be! Twinkling Turquoise is a sheer yet build-able - your guessed it - turquoise polish loaded with matching shimmer with a hint of gold to it. It's a perfect summer polish. This is three coats.

Next up for the New section of today's post I have another polish from the wonderful Esther! It's one of my first of three Boots 17 polishes that she hooked me up with from this Spring's new collection. I love trying new brands and the quality is really there with Boots 17. Very pretty pastel Spring pink.There's a much more prominent shimmer running throughout Spring Petal but it was dark when I swatched so I couldn't sneak in any sunlight. It's there though, believe me. GREAT formula - this is two coats.

Layering Fun - Wet N Wild Fantasy Makers & Etude House WH002

Hello there!


Today I have yet another layering combo to share - and this time the crown jewel of this manicure is a Wet N Wild Wild Fantasy Makers no-name glitter! The infamous Jacqui gifted me two of these never seen glitters back over the holiday seasons, and I'm finally getting around to swatching them. :P (the issues we have owning too much polish LOL!) This glitter is a clear base with turquoise/blue micro glitter and large holo hex glitter. This is two coats over Etuse House's WH002. 

As for my base, Etude House WH002 is a silver foily polish with silver glitter. Etude House polish never cease to make me happy and this one was gifted to me by my lovely Twitter pal Radha a ways back. Two coats, easy formula.

Old and Old - Creative Aqua Jet & Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Funky Frost

Happy Saturday, gals! 

With the exception of my vintage glitters used in layering posts, I've had a craving for some good old vintage polishes. So today instead of a New and Old post, I'm going for an Old and Old post. Last month, Kaz did a 50 polishes in 10 days series - and let's just say she blew my mind and left me with even more lemmings from her blog....as if that were possible... :P On day five she posted Creative's Aqua Jet. The first thing I did was pick my jaw up off the floor. The second was to run (or click) to eBay and purchase this lovely right away! Aqua Jet is as amazing as she describes it, and like she said I love how the shimmer matches the polish color to perfection! This was five coats, yes - five, but the build-up for this sheer polish was more than worth it. 

Next up I have another old school Sally Hansen Hard As Nails polish - Funky Frost. I love turquoise polish so much - and this one has a very special place in my heart. The polish and shimmer are just perfection and I got so many compliments while wearing it. The formula was great to work with like most of Sally's creations that I have, and if I remember correctly this is three coats. LOVE!

Etude House BL019

Hey now, ladies!

I feel like I am so back-logged for blogging - I have so many swatches that I sometimes loose track of the amazing beauties right in front of me! AKA - I'm easily distracted. :P Today I have one of the four lovely Etude House polishes that my wonderful Twitter friend Radha sent me, BL019. I love blue polish and I love glitter. Match made in Heaven!

BL019 is a blue jelly based polish loaded with blue/turquoise/silver glitter. Reminds me of a starry night sky, only brighter. It's really just amazing. Might I add the endless layering possibilities as well? I really love Etude House glitters - they hold such depth and really make you stare and stare. Great choice for me, Radha! :D This is three thin coats. 

Kinda makes ya warm & fuzzy, right?
