Orly - Plum Pludding

Happy Hump Day!

Today I have a really special holiday polish to share, as a matter of fact it's a vintage Orly, people! My lovely polish BFF Jacqui gifted this to me a little while ago, thanks again, girl! <3

I love both of the old Orly bottles - these are the flatter almost triangle bottles with the silver chrome handles. The others are large, round bottles with black handles. I don't own a TON of either, so I'm always excited to get my hands on more! Plum Pudding is a frosty - yet not overly frosty in my opinion - plum colored polish with silver scattered glitter. The name really matches it to perfection! I believe this polish is from the same collection as Mistletoe and Silent Night. Formula was very thin, I needed  three shown here.

Anyone have any others from this collection?

Retro Sunday Squared With The Scholarly Nail - Cover Girl Nail Slicks

We're baaaaaaaack!

Sorry we missed a few weeks here, ladies! Don't blame Jacqui, it was totally my fault. ;p Working fifty plus hours a week, planning a wedding, and Hurricane Sandy make for one busy gal!

Today we decided to share some gems from our vintage Cover Girl Nail Slicks stashes! The funny part is that the two I've chosen to share with you today were both gifted to me by Jacqui herself. She freaking ROCKS. Did I never mention that?! :D First up to share I have Deep Blue Sea. WOW. ZA. O_o This blue is just AWESOME! Sheer, build-able, sparkling, metallic blue goodness. Almost a perfect cross between the night sky and well, as it's name says, the deep blue sea! This is three coats. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Next up I have Cherry Brandy. I love me some red polish, so this cherry metallic/frosty red is right up my ally! The formula is thin, like most older metallics. I had some cuticle pooling, but nothing I couldn't handle. Three coats with this as well.

Don't forget to check out Jacqui's blog too!

Hard Candy: A tale of two Frigids

HAPPY SATURDAY!

Today I have a post that has been only an idea until now! Hard Candy re-released their old polish names in 2008, all but completely changing everything but the polish name. The only double that I have in Frigid, and the only thing they have in common is that they're both blue LOL! :)

Let's check out the original version first! Oh, this bad boy is dated indeed! Anyone else remember when metallic frosts dominated the polish scene in the 90's and early 00's? This would be a prefect example of that. I love the actual color of this polish, but MAN the brushstrokes are kinda killin' me! I love the way this polish glows, though. I'm torn with this one, ladies. Two coats.

Now for the later released 2008 version, which I LOVE! A pale, sheer blue polish LOADED with iridescent micro glitter. WOW. ZA! This is three layers although I can't wait to bust out the layering possibilities. Endless! I really love polishes that glow this way. Just beautiful.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hard Candy - Chronic

Happy Thursday!

Today I have a lovely vintage Hard Candy decant from the lovely Jacqui (yes, you will see many, many more polishes from her in the weeks to come!) to share, Chronic. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Hard Candy polishes, and make it green - I get super excited! Chronic is a medium shimmery green polish with doesn't have a frosty look in the bottle, yet it shows up on the nail. Maybe due to the small decant bottle brush? The brushstrokes were impossible to avoid but I still love this green. I hope one day I get my hand on the full-size to see how it turns out! Two coats.

See ya tomorrow!

Ulta3 - Twilight Fever & Lagoon

Good Morning!

I am one of the luckiest girls for the friends that I've made through polish and my blog. Most recent I met the lovely Lauren from Australia. She is just amazing and we have really formed a sweet friendship that I'm grateful for. I've always wanted to try Ulta3 polishes and this lovely gal hunted down a whopping ten for me! Her big heart knows no bounds. <3 Thanks again, Lauren!

First up I have Twilight Fever, a dupe for Chanel Paradoxel and Revlon Perplex. Twilight Fever is a grey-toned deep plum polish with pink/violet shimmer that really makes this polish what it is! The shimmer is more violet then pink, but in certain light it takes on the more pink. This is two coats. I really enjoy Ulta3's formula for being a cheap-y polish and can't wait to swatch the rest of my bunch!

Next up I have Lagoon to share. This is the one Ulta3 that Laurent picked out for me to add in our swap. Great pick, girl! I know I'm one of the only polish addicts on the planet we enjoy frost polishes, but I love the delicate lime green frost in Lagoon! I didn't realize how sheer thee two coats were until I uploaded these pics, so next time I'm going with three.

Do you have any Ulta3's?

Old and New - China Glaze - Violet Hush & Nicole by OPI's Khloe Had A Little Lam-Lam

Hello there!

Today is another Old and New post! For the Old section I have China Glaze's Violet Hush, yet another great blog sale find! Violet Hush is an old China Glaze with the old bottle style, silver cap, and silver lettering as well. I love this polish for it's mauve color, and I actually enjoy it's frostiness, which I know most don't enjoy in the nail community. I'm weird, it's okay. It's a less obvious type of frost and I really love it on my nails! Great formula, almost a one-coater but went with two.

Next up I have the base color that I used to Red Carpet Lacquer's Grifter - Khloe Had A Little Lam-Lam by Nicole for OPI. The name makes me want to puke in my mouth, but the color itself is awesome! I love the deepened teal color so much. The formula was pretty decent, this is two coats.

Have a fantastic day!

Retro Sunday Squared with Scholarly Nail - Sally Hansen Hard As Nails

Yes, indeed, it's that time again! Time for another addition of Retro Sunday Squared with Scholarly Nail! We skipped last week but we are back today and ready with Sally Hansen Hard As Nails to share with you! Boy oh boy do I love me some Hard As Nails, so it was hard to narrow it down to just two. The first I chose was Chic Creme. What can I say? The matching handles get me every time! :P Chic Creme is a great plum polish with perfectly matching shimmer, and I'd say Chic is a great name for it. I love these colors with my skin-tone. Two coats.

Next up I have Shock Frost. I know it's silly, but boo on the no matching handle on this one. Just sayin. Moving along to the actual polish, LOL, Shock Frost was a bit of a pain to photograph. It's really a frosty lime green polish, but in all my pics it leans to a yellow. Not cool, Samsung. The formula was very thin, and this is a believe four coats. Could have done five. Still a fun color that needs to be seen in person.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! <3 Make sure to check out Jacqui to see what she has to share today!

Old and New - China Glaze Blue Fox & W7 Envy

Hey polish fiends!

Today I have a vintage China Glaze to start off today's post - Blue Fox. I'm a sucker for a great vintage China Glaze and this dusty greyish/blue shimmer polish was gifted from a ways back from the ever-mentioned Jacqui. I LOVE this shades they used to make back in the day! I love the subtle frostiness as well. The formula was running as these tend to be, but three thin coats and this baby was evened out! (Despite a little visible brush strokes...)

Next up I have another polish from my swap from the ever so amazing Esther. She is one of the sweetest girls I've met through polish to date and  her blog is pure genius. Check her out! In the meantime I have W7's Envy to share! Reminds me of a bit of Zoya's Charla and it's dupe counterparts yet I feel it lends its own twist to the mix. Envy is a great blue jelly with great shimmer swimming within. The shimmer really blows me away with this one. Two coats.

Enjoy your day! -Dana

Old and New - Maybelline Jean Jacket & L'oreal VIP Status

Hello!

I'm sitting on my bed eating Nestle chocolate chips, drinking pink lemonade, and re-watching season one of True Blood. This is one awesome evening indeed! :D Hoyt looks so young! Anyhoo, today I have two more amazing polishes to share in an Old and New post, and first up is a Maybelline - Jean Jacket. I don't know exactly why, but I love denim inspired polishes lately. Funny thing since, to be honest, I don't really wear jeans much. I'm more of a dress and leggings/tights kinda gal. Jean Jacket is a great blue metallic polish with purple shimmer. Definitely has the unwashed new jean feel to it. Two coats.

Next up I have another polish from L'oreal's new line, VIP Status. This is the one polish I KNEW I had to have right away and these swatches are evidence why! VIP Status is a teal(ish) frosty shimmer polish with a blackened base to it. Kind of reminds me of a teal version of Revlon's Black With Envy. Maybe not quite, but it reminded me of that anyway. Application pretty good and I really love the end result of this polish. I think it's a must have for polish collectors. Two coats.

Have a kick a$$ day! <3Dana
